How Far Would You Go?

Welcome

The Weyburn Campaign to end Duchenne was started by two Weyburn families that both have two boys diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This progressive condition results in the weakening of muscles throughout the child's body. It primarily affects boys, and they are usually wheel chair bound by age 12. Their life expectancy is only about 20 years.

Another Successful Year

It was another great year for our walk. Even though it had been threatening to rain just a few days before the walk, we ended up with a very nice day, albeit a bit windy. We had a little more than 60 people come out for the walk, and even a few runners. At the end of the day, we raised approximately $15,500 that will go to Jesse's Journey to help them continue to fund research.

Thanks everyone that came out, and our sponsors:

Deflazacort is now covered!

Its official, Deflazacort is now covered under Exceptional Drug Status here in Saskatchewan. I put a few more details under the Steroid Coverage Tab

Save The Date

Our second annual run/walk will be occurring on May 14th, 2011. We're in the process of getting things organized and will be adding more information in the coming weeks and months. Hope to see everyone out again this year, and hopefully some new faces as well!

A Huge Success

Mandy and I couldn't be happier about how Saturday went. We had approximately 115 people out for our walk. By adding everyone's distance together, we were able to add 600km to the "Walk Across Canada In A Day" event held annually by Jesse's Journey. That's just shy of walking across the entire province of Saskatchewan. When we first started planning the walk, we weren't sure what to expect. We hoped we could raise $10,000. We managed to top that mark. In fact, we were able to raise approximately $19,500 for Jesse's Journey.

A Bit About Us In The News

We've managed to get some publicity for our event. When John Davidson, founder of Jesse's Journey, came for a visit in March, the Weyburn Review and Weyburn This Week covered the visit.

We were also featured in the 2009 SaskTel Annual Report [PDF]. The article there focused on how SaskTel helped us out after the diagnosis.

We're just about a month away now and donations and participants are pouring in which is great. However, we'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that if you plan on participating to please let us know by May 1st. The Weyburn Co-op will be providing refreshments and we need an accurate number of people.

Thanks So Much!

How Can You Help

Wondering how you can help?

The easiest way is to pledge someone who is participating in the walk. You can pledge Andrew or Mandy if you don't know anyone else participating, or you can participate yourself. You can download a pledge form from the Charity Walk 2010 page, and use the Contact Us page to let us know you'll be participating.
